What you'll experience
Just like the locals eat
We'll take you out for an evening together, eating the way the locals do - no tourist restaurants or guidebook recommendations, just plenty of local delicacies eaten on the go. The tour includes as many as 8 tastings - you won't come back from this dinner hungry.
Muah Chee
Unassuming at first glance, but for many Malaysians it's the taste of childhood. It's made from sticky rice flour that, once cooked, is cut into pieces and coated in roasted peanuts with sugar. The dessert is soft, slightly chewy and tastes best warm, straight from the stall.
Carrot Cake
Don't let the name fool you - there's no carrot or cake here. It's one of the classics of Chinese street food in Malaysia and Singapore: cubes of dough made from rice flour and radish, fried on a hot griddle with egg, garlic and spices. An unassuming dish with a surprisingly rich flavor.
Takoyaki
Small golden balls known as Japanese octopus doughnuts. Made from a light pancake batter with a piece of octopus inside, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle after frying. Served with an aromatic sauce, mayonnaise and bonito flakes - one of Asia's most popular street snacks.

Frequently asked questions
What's included in the tour?
Hotel transport, the care of a Polish-speaking guide and at least 8 different tastings - usually even more, with portions large enough to easily replace dinner. Along the way we tell you what you're trying, what the dishes are made of and how the locals of Penang eat them.
Does the tour run on other days too?
Unfortunately not. The Night Market in Tanjung Bungah takes place only once a week - on Tuesdays. That's exactly what makes it such a special event.
Will the market be clean?
It's a local street market, so don't expect European standards. The food, however, is prepared fresh on the spot, and that authentic atmosphere is part of the whole experience.
Will there be somewhere to sit?
In theory yes - there's a seating area with tables at the market. Most of the time, though, we spend walking between the stalls and discovering new flavors.
Will there be toilets on site?
Yes. There are toilets and sinks with running water at the market. It's worth being prepared for the local standard, though.
