What you'll experience
A multicultural city
George Town is a place where different religions and languages live side by side - from Christianity, through Hinduism and Taoism, to Islam. We'll visit the most important temples of the various faiths and see how this diversity shapes the city's everyday rhythm.
Clan Jetty
Clan settlements built in the early 20th century on stilts over the water. Descendants of Chinese immigrants still live here, and the wooden jetties and houses form a living village on the water - walking between the houses, you'll feel the atmosphere of old port-town Penang.
Temple of the Goddess of Mercy
One of the oldest and most important temples in George Town, dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin. The local community comes here for peace and prayer; inside, the scent of incense lingers, and the richly decorated altars show strong Chinese cultural influences.
Armenian Street
Armenian Street is one of the most atmospheric streets in George Town - full of colonial buildings, small galleries and cafés. This is where you can best see how the city's history blends with its contemporary, artistic character.
Street art
The murals and installations, created among others by Ernest Zacharevic, have become a symbol of the city and draw travellers from all over the world. They tell the residents' stories in a light, often humorous way, turning the walk into a little urban tale.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need to dress appropriately for the temples?
In some temples (especially Sri Mariamman) it's worth having your shoulders and knees covered and taking off your shoes. In Buddhist and Taoist temples the dress code matters less, and we only see the mosque from the outside.
Is the tour physically demanding?
No - the route runs across flat terrain. We only recommend comfortable shoes.
Does the tour run even when it rains?
Yes. The trip falls in the dry season, but short, intense showers are possible and won't get in the way of sightseeing - we have umbrellas if needed.
Will there be time for shopping during the tour?
Yes. Along the way there's a short break during which you can try local snacks, buy drinks or souvenirs.
