Running trips to Asia

Your next ultra could run through the Thai jungle. You could climb the slopes of an Indonesian volcano or cut across the tropical forests of Malaysia. If that sounds like a good plan, you're in the right place.

Who it's for

Who we take on these trips

Trail and ultra are the common thread of these trips. The rest is people who like it when a trip has a bit more character than a catalogue tour.

  • Trail and ultra runners

You don't have to fight for the podium, but it helps if you train off-road regularly and race in competitions. Every event offers a range of distances - from 20 to 100 km.

  • People who like to travel actively

This isn't a "hotel–pool–home" kind of trip. Wild trails await us, active rest with elements of endurance training and a dose of adventure.

  • People open to new experiences

Asia can take you by surprise. Sometimes with the weather, sometimes with the food, and sometimes with a route that stays in your memory for a long time.

  • Those who value an intimate atmosphere

We travel in small groups of people who share the same passion for running, mountains and discovering new places.

ARTICLE IN KINGRUNNER

RUNNING IN ASIA

We got to know the best places in our running shoes, not on Google Maps. We run through the jungle, along the ocean and through the streets of Asian cities. That's how we find the places we later recommend to our guests too. We also write about these experiences for the readers of Kingrunner.

What a trip like this looks like

We've already tackled the challenges of local transport, finding food that suits us and buying gear. All that's left on your side is building your fitness and deciding to take part.

  1. Local experience

Every race trip is organised by someone who has already taken part in that event. It'll be exotic and different, but nothing will catch you off guard.

  2. Before the start

The plan allows time to acclimatise, adjust to the local time zone and ease in gently after a long flight. Picking up your race pack and visiting the expo are, for us, just as important a part of the event as the race itself.

  3. Race day

This is your day. We provide transport to the start and from the finish, organisational support and a spirit of team encouragement - and zero organisational chaos.

  4. After the race

Time to recover, enjoy good local food and a full physical and mental cool down. The second part of the trip brings a cycling expedition, jungle treks and sightseeing off the beaten track.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience in ultra running?

Yes and no. You don't have to be an elite athlete or have a string of ultramarathons behind you. It does help to have completed at least one half marathon and to feel comfortable during longer efforts. We'll help you work out which distance is the best choice.

How will this race differ from one in Poland or Europe, and why is it worth running in Asia?

Above all, the weather. Expect high temperatures and high humidity - your body works completely differently here than during races in Europe. On top of that come exotic routes, tropical nature and views you won't find in the Alps or the Beskids. On the course you'll mostly meet runners from Asia, and the pace of the races tends to be a little more relaxed, so even an average runner from Poland can finish in a pretty good position. But the biggest difference begins once you cross the finish line. Asia offers an experience you can't recreate anywhere else: tropical jungle, mountains rising above the ocean, night markets, exotic cuisine and a culture that can surprise you every day. This blend of sport, travel and adventure means you come back not just with a medal, but above all with stories you'll still be telling long after you get home.

How far in advance do I need to book?

The earlier the better. Places at the most popular races, such as UTMB Chiang Mai, can sell out very fast. We also need time to plan the logistics and accommodation and to gather the group. Even if you're not 100% decided yet, let us know you're considering it - it helps us plan the whole project better.

Does the trip cover only the race, or also travelling?

We propose a comprehensive programme of around two weeks, covering both taking part in the race and travelling around the region together. If, however, you only need our support during the race weekend, we can adapt to your plans as well.

How much does it all cost?

It depends on the event you choose, the length of stay and the level of support you need. We'll work out an overall cost for you covering the race pack, flights, accommodation, local transport and shared activities. After an initial conversation we'll prepare a few trip options so you can pick the one that suits you best.

Is the trip suitable for solo travellers?

Absolutely. Most participants come on their own. We're bound by a shared passion for running, mountains and travel, so getting to know each other comes very naturally. Many participants meet people on these trips whom they then see at races and joint training for years to come.

Can I come with a companion?

Of course! Let us know your expectations and interests. We'll put together activity ideas for both runners and those who aren't racing.

What should I pack for a trip like this?

Above all, light sportswear, proven trail shoes and plenty of common sense when choosing gear. The tropical climate means high temperatures, high humidity and frequent rain. We'll prepare a detailed packing list for each trip separately, but one thing is certain - we'll be doing laundry far more often than on similar trips in Europe.

Do I have to take part in all the shared training and activities?

No. It's your trip and your adventure. Shared training, excursions and activities are a suggestion, not an obligation. If one day you'd rather relax by the pool, get a massage or explore the area on your own, that's no problem. We want everyone to come home from the trip happy, not with a sense of ticking off an imposed plan.

What if I get injured before or during the trip?

Life writes all kinds of scripts and we understand that perfectly. If an injury comes up before the trip, we'll look for the best solution together. If it happens on-site, we'll help arrange the necessary support and adjust the plan for your stay. Even if you don't make it to the start or the finish, you can still enjoy the journey and the experience of discovering Asia.

And what if I don't finish the race?

Then it'll probably be the most epic DNF of your life. 😉 Whatever the result, you'll come back with stories you could never live through at a local race outside town. Sometimes the greatest value of these trips isn't the medal at the finish, but the adventure, the people and the experiences gathered along the way.
